Any chance the show may take itself too seriously is quickly alleviated with a simply hand gesture to move the hair from her face - the audience howls and we know we're in for a send up. The Hanford Mills Museum presents Hilt Kelly and the Sidekicks in a noon performance of traditional Catskill fiddling and music. East Meredith, NY.

Catskills Folk Connection is a collaboration of several Delaware County Arts, Education and Community Based Organizations that are interested in keeping the local traditions and history alive. Emerging from research done by Catskills Folk Connection for its current project, Hilton Kelly: Catskills Fiddling Tradition, is the need to do more to ensure the survival, not only of fiddling styles and tunes, but also the dance forms that go with it. The 2008 CFC project is honoring Hilton Kelly, 83 year old traditional fiddler and singing square dance caller.

Electric Junkyard Gamelan is the brainchild of bandleader and composer Terry Dame. The group's music is influenced by everything from Indian classical to klezmer, rock to jazz and is shaped by Dame's unique and humor laced voice. They perform on innovative instruments such as electric rubber band harps, copper pipe horns, clay pot "marimba"s and an arsenal of percussion instruments fashioned from old farm equipment, turntable platters, saw blades, and truck springs. $10. www.terrydame.com

"CECILIA'S LAST TEA PARTY"

Todd Mountain Theater Project celebrates its 10^th year of bringing memorable theater to RAG audiences with the New York debut of Russell Davis's Cecilia's Last Tea Party. Directed by Rebecca Brown of West Fulton, NY this part coming-of-age story, part mystery, part Alice in Wonderland, it is set in a small island nation in the Pacific Rim after World War II. Cecilia, a young girl, struggles with the disappearance of her parents by retreating into her fantasy world with the pelican Dodo and Dada, a rare Bengal tiger. Complicating matters are an unsympathetic Aunt and a threatening new commanding officer. Using humor, lyricism, even puppets, Cecilia's Last Tea Party spins a wonderful tale. CECILIA will be directed by Rebecca Brown who has a home in West Fulton, NY. Performances are August 7^th – 10^th, Thursday to Sunday and August 14^th – 17^th Thursday to Sunday. Our popular summer youth program provides children ages 8-14 with five fun-filled days of exploration, adventure and creativity. WHET PAINT

On this one day local artists take to the streets, gathering inspiration and then creating paintings on the spot. At the public reception the doors to the gallery will be flung open and each work, hung fresh from the easel, will be offered to the highest bidder in a silent auction. A rare opportunity for artists to be spontaneous and for art lovers to purchase art at a reasonable price. Great food and wine. $10 admission. Rain or Shine!.
The artwork will also be on exhibit to the public on Sunday from 11 - 4 pm.

Plein Air, which means "in the open air", describes the act of painting outdoors. Plein Air painting has enjoyed a renaissance in the Catskills. This particular group show includes exquisite works from well known and sought after landscape painters who have studied their mountain communities.

At the Pleasant Valley Communuty Club, Andes, NY Learn the traditional square dances of the Catskills with Hilt Kelly and the Sidekicks. Dances will be taught. Open to experienced and beginning dancers. Catskills Folk Connection is a collaboration of several Delaware County Arts, Education and Community Based Organizations that are interested in keeping the local traditions and history alive. Emerging from research done by Catskills Folk Connection for its current project, Hilton Kelly: Catskills Fiddling Tradition, is the need to do more to ensure the survival, not only of fiddling styles and tunes, but also the dance forms that go with it. The 2008 CFC project is honoring Hilton Kelly, 83 year old traditional fiddler and singing square dance caller.

Electric Junkyard Gamelan is the brainchild of bandleader and composer Terry Dame. The group's music is influenced by everything from Indian classical to klezmer, rock to jazz and is shaped by Dame's unique and humor laced voice. Todd Mountain Theater Project celebrates its 10th year of bringing memorable theater to RAG audiences with the New York debut of Russell Davis's Cecilia's Last Tea Party. Directed by Rebecca Brown of West Fulton, NY this part coming-of-age story, part mystery, part Alice in Wonderland, it is set in a small island nation in the Pacific Rim after World War II. Cecilia, a young girl, struggles with the disappearance of her parents by retreating into her fantasy world with the pelican Dodo and Dada, a rare Bengal tiger. Complicating matters are an unsympathetic Aunt and a threatening new commanding officer. Using humor, lyricism, even puppets, Cecilia's Last Tea Party spins a wonderful tale. CECILIA will be directed by Rebecca Brown who has a home in West Fulton, NY. Performances are August 7th – 10th, Thursday to Sunday and August 14th – 17th Thursday to Sunday. Fiddlers! is one of the best-loved autumn traditions in the Catskills. Featuring an outstanding roster of some of the best traditional fiddlers and musicians in the Northeast.
